Services AVOL Provides

AVOL provides a wide range of services to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS and to empower those affected:

HIV Prevention & Outreach

AVOL provides free HIV testing, Mondays and Wednesdays, 6 PM – 8 PM at our offices. We also test Thursday at Hook Novelty (day) and the Bar Complex (evening) in downtown Lexington.  Testing is also available by appointment.

We conduct community outreach and education in community centers, in drug treatment facilities, on college campuses, and just out-and-about in the neighborhood.

We conduct special workshops with targeted groups of men and women focusing on their unique experiences as they relate to preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS.

We provide free condoms, lube, and other safe sex supplies to local shops, bars, and other public pick up locales.  Kits are also available at AVOL’s office.

Client Services Program

AVOL provides supportive services to eligible men and women living with HIV/AIDS including:

  • Housing Assistance

  • Food

  • Transportation

  • Prescription Co-pays

  • Personal and Household Items

  • Substance Abuse Referrals

  • Mental Health Referrals

  • Volunteer help

Client Peer Group

Every month or so, AVOL hosts an outing for HIV+ clients to connect, socialize, and offer each other support. Living with HIV/AIDS presents many unique challenges, and it can be helpful and healing to spend time with others who know intimately what you’re going through.

Life Skills Seminars

Clients receiving assistance from AVOL are encouraged to participate in seminars which cover a variety of topics including monthly budgeting, navigating the SSI/SSDI system, finding and keeping affordable housing, conflict resolution, stress reduction, and more.

AVOL offers a variety of housing programs for eligible clients living with HIV/AIDS.
